What are agents doing on our websites? A study from April 2026 analyzed agentic AI behavior across a multitude of websites. I’ll put the link to the study in the comments, but two big things that jump out to me…

1) One of the most notable findings from this and other studies is that agents are mostly searching or browsing for something on the website. This study found it to be about 70% of interactions.

Only 3% of agents are used for checkout or other financial transactions. The rest was split across various types of account areas.

This data helps prioritize agentic optimization. As much as we want to think of AI agents as transacting on our website, the truth of the matter is that they are mostly doing research and analysis.

I still think it makes sense to optimize your website’s forms to support agentic AI completing transactions. After all, 3% is actually pretty substantial and you need that to work correctly.

However, it is way more important to optimize websites to support browsing, searching, and reading. Can agents use your search forms? Does your website even have a search form? Or, how successfully can agents use your navigation? Are there enough links to help agents find everything?

2) Another thing that really stood out to me is that about half of the observed agentic activity came from the Comet browser. The next two largest groups were ChatGPT’s Atlas browser and Claude’s browser extension. Together these browsers account for about 87% of agentic activity on websites.

Have you tested using your website in each of these browsers? Do you know what mistakes they are making?

But, also, have you surveyed or interviewed your customers about how they are using agentic browsers? What are they asking the AI to do? Where are they struggling?
