What kind of results can you expect from a technical SEO audit or ongoing technical SEO support?
After working with hundreds of clients, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that the results are always different. The results are different because every website and every business is different. The problems facing your website are unique. The way those affect your website and your business will be unique as well, as will the ways you need to fix those issues.
So many technical SEO audits offer generic recommendations that are not tailored to the individual needs of your business. Generic recommendations deliver no meaningful results.
Getting real value from any technical SEO project requires not only understanding what technical problems exist but also understanding how those problems affect your business. Only with that understanding in mind can you determine which problems to fix to improve website performance and achieve the company’s overall goals.
Here are a few examples of projects we’ve worked on at Elementive and the results we achieved for our clients.
Optimizing AI Search
SEO is changing with the introduction of generative AI search results. We are currently helping clients navigate these changes and conduct experiments to understand what will help most. This has included tests about the way pages are rendered, using semantic HTML, schema/structured data, overall site structure, and more.
One of our best results has come from an ecommerce website we helped with ongoing AI visibility optimization. Our focus was on improving how the company was discussed in Google’s AI Overviews, Google’s AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and other LLMs. Our work included testing, covering peak holiday periods, and involved reviewing thousands of product pages for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with how AI systems summarize and cite product details.
Through this work, we’ve improved the crawlability and rendering performance of the website, ensuring AI bots can consistently access, interpret, and extract product data. Because of our work, AI bots and agents are now able to access critical information about the company’s products, including pricing information and product images.
Following the optimizations, the website has seen steady and meaningful growth in interactions from OpenAI’s interaction bot, ChatGPT-User. There has also been a recent rise in visits from ChatGPT Agent, indicating better agentic understanding of the site’s structure and content.
We’ve also helped the company drive more traffic from AI search results to the website, including improving conversion rates from this traffic. We’ve also helped the company identify unattributed traffic arriving on the website from AI search results.

Website Redesign Technical SEO Impact
Redesign and redevelopment projects can be risky for SEO performance. With so many changes during a redesign, Google needs to reevaluate the entirety of your website to decide if your updated website should rank differently. The more changes made, especially to URL structure and page rendering, the bigger the risk that the redesign will destroy your website’s SEO performance.
We help clients recover when things go wrong during a redesign. This client worked with an agency that did not understand how to minimize the SEO risk during a website redesign. Several technical mistakes were made, including major problems with URL structure, internal links, and content migration.
By the time the client hired us, several weeks had passed and organic traffic was at an all-time low. We immediately began an in-depth review of the website and used archival data from the old website to determine the full extent of the changes. We worked with the company’s new developers to identify specific issues to fix so that they could correct any mistakes and undo the damage done during the redesign. After several weeks, we were able to help the client regain traffic and begin to recover.

We also help clients prepare for a redesign to avoid many of these risks. The best problems are the ones you avoid. If you prepare correctly for a redesign, you can see an increase in traffic following the redesign. This client hired us to help them prepare for the website redesign. Our services included a full QA of the new website. There were issues found during our testing of the staging website and we worked with the developer to correct those issues before launch. After launching the website, the client saw a notable jump in organic traffic.

Recovering from a Sudden Loss of SEO Traffic
One of the worst things that can happen is a sudden loss of organic search traffic. There are several reasons this can happen, including Google’s algorithm updates, a manual action issued by Google, a failed website redevelopment, or other major changes to the website.
Unfortunately, the cause is not always clear. This company hired Elementive to investigate a sudden loss of traffic. There were no obvious explanations for why the traffic declined and the company was not aware of any major changes made to the website over the last several months.
We conducted a full review of the website and found that Google was unable to successfully crawl the website. There are many reasons Google would be unable to crawl the website, from mistakes in the robots.txt file to problems with rendering and more. From our research, we found that an upgrade to the website’s CMS broke parts of the code, resulting in Google getting server errors whenever they attempted to crawl the website.
We worked with the company’s developer and hosting company to identify the specific problem causing this issue. We researched solutions for the developer to implement. Once those fixes were implemented, the client’s traffic began to recover.

Technical SEO Audits & Reviews
A technical SEO audit is an opportunity to explore the website to find technical problems that are holding back the website’s SEO performance. Along with audits, we also help clients with smaller technical SEO reviews. A review does not go as deep as an audit but still surfaces key problems to address.
This client hired us for a technical SEO audit. Their website was ranking decently in organic search rankings, but they wanted to explore ways to improve their overall performance. As with all audits, we began by understanding the client’s overall goals. In their case, they wanted to increase traffic to specific page types that led to better conversions.
During our audit, we evaluated every page of their website but focused heavily on those specific page types that were the most important for their overall business goals. Our evaluation looked at how Google was currently crawling, indexing, and ranking the website. We found several problems on the website. While these problems were not critical, they were holding the website back from peak performance. We also found several areas of opportunity for this company’s website, including opportunities for the most important page types.
After implementing many of our recommendations, the company saw a significant gain in organic search traffic. They also reported more conversions.

Along with seeing an increase in traffic, the company also saw more pages indexed by Google. This was due to resolving technical problems that prevented Google from rendering content on some pages of the website. We provided specific recommendations and once implemented, the company saw an overall lift in how many pages were indexed. This included an increase in indexation for the more important page types.
